Go Green or Die Trying - innovative sustainability concepts for a green future: Greentech Festival Berlin
The Greentech Festival took place at the old airport in Berlin Tegel in mid-June - a trade fair that focuses entirely on the green technologies of the future. Evernine was there and learned from over 200 exhibitors (including Finance Minister Christian Lindner & singer-songwriter Billie Eilish - as well as ex-Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg, who acted as patron) how the climate crisis can be overcome with green technologies.
After the initial hassle of redeeming our tickets (it was still very hot!), we were greeted right at the entrance by the stage of KOA - Berlin's first career festival specifically for women. Inspiring personalities such as Diana zur Löwen, Verena Pausder and Lunia Hara gave their views on renunciation and change - we listened spellbound to some of these discussions before moving on - because directly opposite is the “Smart.City.Plaza” - which the leading European consulting, planning and project management company Drees & Sommer operates alongside its “Urban Sustainibilty Hub” together with “Urban Beta”.
A forum for lectures, workshops and discussions on the topics of sustainable building & general energy saving.
We stopped for a moment at Urban Beta - a modular principle in which prefabricated wooden elements can be linked and combined with each other through nodes - especially in a rapidly changing, mobile world, such forward-looking, sustainable & socially inclusive design for temporary quarters is of course very interesting. At the configurator on the upper floor (it was also very hot here!) you can build your own so-called betahood.
Vehicles of the future
On the way to the indoor area, you come across a few delicious food stalls, but you're less likely to get hungry in this weather, so (for us) reaching for a Bionade had to suffice.
Inside, NexAero presented something that had never been seen before (at least not by NexAero). The company's first hydrogen-powered flying car. After the initial hustle and bustle caused by Christian Lindner's tour had died down, there was once again space to take in further highlights:
In the hangar is a vehicle from EDAG, an automotive supplier from Wiesbaden and Evernine customer - it looks like it was taken from a movie set in the year 3000 - sci-fi alert! But what does this vehicle have to do with green technology? To put it simply: in addition to simple transportation, it can recognize, collect and sort waste.
The list of innovations is long
We could go on and on with this list of inspiring events: Lufthansa's Greentech Hub, which is looking for start-ups that can help make flying greener; Shell's electric charging station from Ubitricity, which is integrated into a lantern; or Mattel's “Barbie Loves the Ocean” doll collection, which is made from 90% ocean plastic.
All interesting technologies that can make the world a little bit better - but enough to stop climate change?
What we definitely take with us:
There is a fine line between real sustainability and the - admittedly much-used buzzword - greenwashing. Even the world's major corporations and CEOs are aware of this. That's why some keynote speeches honestly remain somewhat vague.
But to pick up on the motto of the Greentech Festival: #togetherwechange!
In the areas of IT and digital marketing in particular, there are already numerous opportunities to make processes even more sustainable and greener. And if these are used and implemented consistently, a real change towards more sustainability is possible. We at Evernine are focusing on these trends and innovations, which we want to and will integrate even better into our daily work - together with our partners and customers.
